Dental Bridges

Many adults feel self-conscious about missing teeth and gaps in their smile. If you have multiple missing teeth, Drs. Don and Cathleen Czaplicki may recommend a natural-looking dental bridge.  Find out why so many patients in the Milwaukee, WI, region visit our practice for dental bridge treatment...

Benefits of a Dental Bridge

A bridge consists of one to three artificial teeth (known as "pontics") secured in place with adjacent crowns or dental implants. Both traditional and implant-supported bridges offer several distinct advantages, including:

Enhanced Appearance

A dental bridge fills gaps in your teeth, allowing you to once again take pride in your smile. Bridges will also fill out a hollowed facial structure, taking years off your appearance.

Restored Function

It can be difficult to chew and speak clearly with missing teeth. A dental bridge will restore your ability to eat the foods you like and speak with confidence.

Improved Oral Health

A dental bridge prevents remaining natural teeth from shifting out of place and further damaging your smile. Implant-supported bridges have the added benefit of preventing bone degradation and jaw recession by replacing your tooth roots with implants.

My family has been going to Czaplicki Family Dentistry for several years now! They've been great with my own adult needs (including TMJ treatment and adult orthodontia), as well as my daughters'. It's great being somewhere that can also treat children and does it with compassion! We love the hygienists and all doctors we've seen over the years but especially Drs. Don and Cathy!

Procedure Timelines

You will first meet with Dr. Czaplicki at our Milwaukee, WI, dental practice to discuss your needs and goals. Together, we will decide whether a traditional bridge, cantilever bridge (which connects to adjacent teeth on only one side of the gap), or implant-supported bridge is right for you.

The process of placing implant-supported bridges requires more time and is slightly more complex than that of traditional dental bridges. However, most patients agree that the comfort and security provided by dental implants are worth the investment.

No matter what type of bridge you choose, you can trust that you will end up with a natural-looking, functional smile.

Traditional Bridge

Tooth Preparation

To prepare you to receive a traditional bridge, our dentist will first numb the treatment area. We will then remove a small amount of enamel from the adjacent teeth to make room for the crowns.

Impressions

We will then take an impression of your teeth which we will send to our partner dental laboratory. Our dentists will place a temporary bridge for you to wear while you wait for your permanent prosthetic.

Permanent Restoration

It takes our lab about one to two weeks to produce the pontics. When they are complete, you will come back to our dental practice for a fitting. Our dentist will remove the temporary prosthetic and anchor your permanent bridge to the adjacent teeth (or tooth). We will make any adjustments necessary to ensure optimal comfort.
The implants require three to six months to integrate with the bone.

Implant-Supported Bridge

The implants require three to six months to integrate with the bone.

Consultation

Your first consultation will consist of diagnostic imaging to determine your candidacy for dental implants. Patients must have sufficient bone structure to support the titanium posts, which will be surgically embedded in the jaw. If needed, we can coordinate with an oral surgeon to perform bone grafting, providing you with the necessary bone tissue for implants.

Implant Surgery

When your jawbone is strong enough, we will place the titanium posts. After your surgery, the implants require three to six months to integrate with the bone in a process called "osseointegration." Your doctor will place a temporary bridge while your permanent prosthetic is created at our partner lab.

Restoration

When the implants have healed and your permanent bridge is ready, our doctor will secure abutments to the titanium posts. The abutments will then connect the pontics to your implants and keep the bridge securely in place.
