Traditional Metal Braces
Metal braces are a very effective, efficient treatment for patients of any age, especially when misalignment is severe. For patients with extreme bite issues, rotated teeth, or overcrowding, traditional braces may be the best choice. However, some patients do not like the look or feel of the metal bands, wires, and brackets that are attached to their teeth.
Ceramic Braces
While ceramic braces work the same way as regular braces, they are specifically designed to blend in better with the color of your teeth. This makes them much less visible. For this reason, ceramic braces can be a good option for adult patients and older teens. Like traditional metal braces, ceramic braces rely on arch wires and other hardware to gently apply pressure to align the teeth.
Treatment For Children
Depending on your child's case, our dentist may recommend a two-step treatment starting before they turn 13. The first step is to expand your child's jaw with a dental expansion device while bones are soft, growing, and easy to alter. This 6- to 12-month process can create more room in their mouth for permanent teeth and prevent extractions due to overcrowding. The second step begins in the early teens, with braces applied for the purpose of straightening their adult teeth. The second step of treatment may be shorter than normal thanks to step one.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Invisalign is a popular choice for teens and adults who don't want to wear noticeable metal hardware. These clear plastic aligners can discreetly improve mild to moderate misalignment in about the same length of time as traditional braces. You must wear the virtually invisible aligners for about 22 hours a day. The aligners are easy to remove, so you can eat whatever you want during treatment. You can also brush and floss normally after you remove your Invisalign aligners.
ClearCorrect Aligners
This brand of clear aligners works much like Invisalign. However, ClearCorrect aligners tend to be a bit thinner and lighter, which could make them more comfortable in your mouth than Invisalign aligners. Depending on the ClearCorrect plan you need, the treatment may cost a bit less than Invisalign treatment. Treatment length depends on the severity of your misalignment. No two people will wear braces or aligners for the same amount of time. Your treatment could take as little as six months or as long as two years. Also, you may need to wear retainers after treatment is done to keep your teeth from shifting back. Shouldn't I visit an orthodontist for orthodontic treatment?
While an orthodontist is specifically trained to deal with just orthodontic issues, our dentists have extensive training and can help with not only your orthodontics but a wide range of dental issues. This makes Czaplicki Family Dentistry a one-stop shop for many of your oral health needs.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
Mild discomfort is to be expected when you first get your braces or start Invisalign treatment. You may also notice discomfort when you have adjustments or switch to a new aligner tray in the series. This should be easily managed with over-the-counter pain meds and comfort measures like ice. If you experience significant pain, call our practice as soon as possible.
Are there foods I should avoid with braces or Invisalign?
There are no food restrictions with Invisalign as you will remove your clear aligners before you eat. However, with braces, it is best to avoid sticky foods such as caramel and chewing gum to prevent damage to your metal wires and brackets. Your dentist will provide you with a full list of foods to avoid while wearing braces.
Do I have to wear my Invisalign all day?
For optimal and quick results, your clear aligners trays should be worn for 20-22 hours a day. If you cannot commit to wearing the trays for the required time, braces might be a better treatment option for you.
